Safeguarding

Child Protection Policy

Our commitment to keeping every child safe, every day, without exception.

GM English Hub is committed to providing a safe, supportive environment for every child in our care. This is non-negotiable and applies to every staff member, volunteer, contractor, and visitor.

Recruitment screening

Every applicant for a teaching or volunteer role at GM English Hub must complete: (1) a written application; (2) a video interview with our academic lead; (3) two professional references that we contact directly; and (4) a criminal background check from each country in which the applicant has resided for six months or longer during the past five years.

Background check verification must be completed before the candidate is confirmed for a placement. Applicants unable to provide verifiable checks will not be offered a position.

Supervision and conduct

  • No volunteer may be alone in a classroom or one-to-one with a student during their first four weeks at GM English Hub.
  • All volunteers sign and adhere to the GM English Hub Code of Conduct on day one.
  • Photographs of students may only be taken with written parental consent and stored on a school-managed device.
  • Personal contact (private social media, messaging apps, off-site meetings) between volunteers and students is prohibited.

Reporting concerns

Concerns about a child's welfare or about adult conduct toward a child can be reported confidentially to our designated safeguarding lead: safeguarding@lpec.la. Reports can also be made in person to any GM English Hub manager or anonymously via the suggestion box at reception. Every report is taken seriously and investigated within 48 hours.

Training

All staff and long-term volunteers complete annual safeguarding training aligned with UNICEF child-protection standards. Short-term volunteers complete the same training as part of their three-day orientation.
